Xanthelasma removal - How I got rid of xanthelasma...briefly

If your reading this then you probably fed up with little white spots around your eyes and are looking for a removal solution. Years ago I suddenly developed these unsightly marks under my eyes.  Assuming I had high cholesterol I went to the docs and after some tests I was told I didn't have particularly high cholesterol at all and didn't need the tablets. The doctor didn't offer much reassurance and said I would need to see a dermatologist.    He kind of did what most people did, poo poo them and say, "they are not that bad".  Many friends said "you can't see them" or "only you notice them".

A year or more went buy and they were still there. During another trip to the doctor for something else, this particular doctor pointed at the white marks and I explained how I hated them and they are depressing me and he wrote down the name 'xanthelasma' and said he didn't know a treatment to get rig of them but I could look.

So I got on google and started investigating. Each time I found a blog or someone who managed to remove it I tried the same.  First I had them frozen at some beauty spa but that didn't work.  I then looked into face peels.  I found out they cost around £300 and I would need 2 or 3 treatments.  As I didn't fancy spending that much I decided I would just find out what 'peel' or acid they use and try myself.  Basically its trichloroacetic acid (TCA).  I got some off ebay from a so called approved or rated supplier and crossed my fingers. Trichloroacetic acid is water soluble and the instructions said to dissolve in water so the tca was 25%.  First time I tried I looked like I had walked into a door and when the scab fell away it did apprear less severe but certainly not removed. I tried a slightly stronger percentage and again it didn't work.  I had the xanthelasma for hell!  I tried on and off for about three months before giving up.

A few months past and again I was depressed at these marks on my face.  My mum told me off an old make up foundation which would work and yes it did a bit but I would have to have heavy foundation on to really cover it and that wasn't for me.

This pic shows a close up and me using TCA on one half of one side.

My Solution - Wartner Pen

Then I read about some who had successfully removed xanthelasm using a wartner pen.  It is for verruca and wart removal and says you shouldn't use around the eyes. Well I ignored that and as its a nice gel it is very easy to place the acid exactly on the marks.  After one try I was impressed and carried on.  It is less abrasive and I didn't look like I had been battered.  After about 3 applications and a few weeks later i can honestly say it has gone.  I will put up recent picture soon and some more pictures I took when it was at its worst (when I can find them).  This has made me fed up and self conscious on off for many years so I am glad to finally wake up in the morning and not see these marks.  Plus nobody has told me wrongly that I had concealer not rubbed in properly.

Hi Carolyn,

Have you any update to this as I am keen to see the results. I did the other day try this, was a bit surprised on the burning sensation but I guess that's normal.

hey Carolyn! I've read success stories about using the wart pen. Do you have any updates for us, or photos of your before and after? :)

Hi Guys

Sorry for the delay. I must change the email notification on this blog as I missed these comments. I am still not THAT happy with the results. The unsightly white blobs have gone but I am left with white scaring which i think I prefer to the spots. But in the summer like now where I have a tan, I think they really stand out. I only applied the stick once on each side, and it did burn out the xanthelasma but there is scaring. I am in two minds whether I would recommend this technique to be honest now. Ill take a picture and do an updated post soon.

Most of the solution to be applied for xanthelasma are acids and they burn the skin layers, along with xanthelasma. Additionally, xanthelasma has a nasty tendency to come back after its removed with such acids or TCA. I hope I find some natural way to get rid of Xanthelasma somewhere. Till then I will try juicing and healthy diet. Lets see, if it helps. Nice blog.

I have read, researched and tried everything. I stumbled across a website www.xanthel.com and thought I would give it a try as it seemed easy and the price was cheaper than having surgery. To my big surprise the company is absolutely amazing to deal with. I live in Australia and it was sent in approximately 2 weeks. I sent some photo's in and they explained in detail by a dermatologist that my was so deep seeded that it may take two treatments a month apart to remove the entire Xanthelesma. Well they were right, I popped it on two weeks ago and the top half has gone, it is not white anymore and it has halved in depth. I am going to put it on again next week to remove the balance. If you email them, they contact you back immediately and are very friendly and professional to deal with. Could not recommend they highly enough. I wish I could post some pics here, but if anyone wants any just comment and I will send some. This is not a paid advert for them, just a very happy customer who hated her Xanthelasma and is happy to have it going away.

Hi,

I was wondering how did you do with the scar, did it go away? I was going to use the wartner pen and after reading about your experience i am not sure anymore. Could you please tell me if you are happy with results now after about 2 years. Thanks

I tried Wartner just 3 days ago, it hurts like hell!! My eye is a little swollen and quite bruised. I did the top and underneath at the same time, the xanthelasma was very small on this eye. It appears to be working though is sore. If it works well I will do the same on the other eye. The xanthelasma is much bigger on the eyelid and underneath on the other eye, so may do it separately and a little at a time.

H, ive just applied the wartner pen to each of my eyes. ive had this horrible condition for about 10 years now. The first time it appeared my doctor was nonplussed about it. He sent me for blood tests and my cholesterol levels were more than acceptable. The first one appeared in my right eye upper lid and the second one followed almost 8 years later in my left upper eye lid. I watched a number of You tube videos and took the courage to do it! After applying the wartner about an hour ago and after it finally stopped stinging my confidence in this procedure took a nose dive hence looking on the net for further affirmation that this procedure is one safe and second effective. I will follow this up with another update, I hope to goodness that it removes the X but also that im not left with equally unslighlty scarrin. Fingers crossed SD

SD here from earlier post 13 August. Just a quick update, nothing is happening....after i applied the wartner is stung like mad and now three days later it just looks like two white frosting blobs on both corners of my eyes. To be honest it looks worse than the X and im slightly more self conscious about it. Im worried about trying to cover them up with make up so have been slightly reclusive these past three days - Im on holiday from work and have another week off so had hoped to have this done without anyone from work asking what was going on with my eyes......Im wondering if the solution is to apply more wartner? Ill post with another update next week. Good luck everyone who is also trying this, can you post an update as it might help me decide what my next course of action is....SD

ust applied Warner for the first time to my X which is underneath my left eye. it stung quite a bit and frosted over which had me worrying soI applied some castor oil on a cotton tip to it.
Didn’t help with the frosting but stinging subsided... now I’ve started I’ll continue but initial thoughts are be prepared for the frosting and for the treatment to be noticeable.....

Im thinking about tring this. I is costly but im tired of the white spots on my eye.

Just completed the wartner treatment. After initial frosting the area went back to normal colour the next morning but I resisted adding more and I am glad I did t over the last 2 weeks the area looked bruised, then a scab appeared that came off after a day taking with it greasy stuff which I. An only assume was some of the deposits. This continued for another week, until it healed over completely, I have a small silverish scar that is not noticeable and I’m sure it will go soon, during the process I kept the area moist with castor oil when possible and will continue to use as it is meant to help with Xan removal naturally...
